Mountain
Zebra National Park travel info
In the 1930s, the Cape Mountain Zebra was on the brink of extinction.
To ensure their survival, the Mountain Zebra National Park was established
in 1937 and today some 200-mountain zebra inhabit the park. The scenery is
exceptionally beautiful, encompassing mountains, ravines and high plateau,
with attractive trees and a great variety of aloes and flowering shrubs.
Nature trails and the three-day Mountain Zebra Hiking Trail hold the
promise of exciting discoveries. Game viewing is rewarding throughout the
year, particularly on the Rooiplaat Plateau. Antelope species originally
found in the region, as well as small predators and 200 species of birds,
including the magnificent black eagle, may be seen.
Accommodation includes fully equipped chalets, a caravan park and a
delightful Victorian guesthouse. There is a licensed a la carte restaurant
and a tourist shop; conference facilities cater for 60 delegates. Swimming
and horse riding are popular leisure options.

Summers are warm, and winter nights are cold. Rainfall averages some 390
