Established in 2000ad Rafiki's Cafè has long been at the hearts
of most Capetonians looking for a relaxed, unassuming venue to
meet friends and make new ones. The heart of the business has
always been its people, both staff and patrons. From humble
beginnings the business has grown from initially being a private
supper club to what it is today..... a busy bar restaurant.
There's no single salient thing that brings people to the venue
and keeps them there. Perhaps it is the beautiful views from the
35m long sunny balcony, or the groups of colourful people
adorning it, or the full scrumptious menu, or the staff, or the
huge open fire place (cold nights). Whatever it is, all will
tell you that a quick "pop in" often turns into an "all
nighter."
The menu consists of easy going food. Their Pizzas are without
doubt top contenders for the best in Cape Town prize (should
there be one). The menu also sports killer hamburgers, salads
and so on. Look out for the Prawn special, starts at noon, but
get there early, it ends at 3pm. R42.50 gets you a mountain
(500g) of Mozambican SSS prawns! You won’t find that deal
anywhere! |
Get in touch to keep in the loop of what might be spinning on
the balcony, including DJ’s and live bands may be playing - they
have some of the best the country has to offer. The venue is
perfectly suited to intimate sessions and is sure to please all
live music fans as well as art lovers. There is a host of always
changing artwork on the walls and crafts that find their way
through the door.
Rafiki’s being quite central, is within a short walk from almost
everything in the city bowl area. On one of the main roads to
Camps Bay/Table Mountain it is an irresistible stop going to or
coming from the beach. Reservations can be a little more
difficult as they believe in "first come first serve" but they
do take bookings. They’re happy to host birthdays, team building
and corporate events, going away bashes or wrap parties. Don’t
forget 10% gratuity is added to all bookings. |
The ever evolving Rafikis now offers a big screen and function
area, inside and on the balcony.
The owner, Miki’s, mission in life was to create a venue unlike
anything Cape Town had to offer. Most of which being trendy
night spots with dress codes and intimidating bouncers. Although
he would happily admit Rafiki’s is not "trendy" you would be
mistaken in thinking that the place and its patrons don’t have
style. Quite the opposite. What you will find are loads of
people who came to have a great time without pretences. Straight
off the beach, from work, from the airport or from home, all are
welcome to come as they feel most comfortable. Whether you
started your evening at Rafiki’s or ended it, you are certainly
going to find yourself back there before long. One things for
sure, a more Capetonian place you won’t find. |

From Muizenberg take the M3 freeway and Eastern Boulevard into
town. Exit Eastern Boulevard into Buitengracht Street and follow
to the top where the road branches into two, follow the left
branch into New Church Street and proceed into Kloof Nek Street.
