The Long Street Café will no doubt, in years to come, end up
being just as famous as Cranford’s Book Shop which was once
located in the gracious building now occupied by the Café. Long
Street is a living memorial to the history of Cape Town and no
visit to Cape Town is complete without a leisurely stroll along
the length of this famous street which offers visitors a glimpse
of our Victorian past, and the chance to browse through the old
bookshops which say much about the character of the street.
|
Having carefully preserved the impressive façade with its timber
frames and art-deco style windows, the Long Street Café has
fitted perfectly into the old fashioned ambience that is clearly
evident in this famous street. The Café is home from home for
many locals whether they are enjoying a leisurely breakfast,
business lunch, or one of the many exotic cocktails on offer
including the popular Long Street Iced Tea. The cosmopolitan
clientele includes plenty of tourists, who mix comfortably with
actors, artists, lawyers and politicians, and Wednesday evenings
are a must for those who want to enjoy a fun filled evening of
karaoke. |
The bistro style menu caters for all tastes throughout the day
with a selection of breakfast dishes, plenty of salads and
sandwiches for a light lunch, and more substantial fare for the
evenings. Starter recommendations include the Phyllo Fingers -
filled with feta cheese, deep fried and served with a sweet and
sour sauce, and juicy Pork Ribs marinated in a honey, rosemary
barbeque sauce. Choose from a vast selection of deli items to
make your own gourmet pizza with everything from roasted peppers
to salami. Main course recommendations (for those who like spicy
dishes) include Thai style Chicken Wraps served with a peanut
sauce and Chicken Strips cooked in a creamy chilli and Thai
curry sauce. Save room for a delicious dessert such as the Baked
Cheesecake or sinful Choc Mud Pie. |
